Read more »The iconic Indian Scout has been in production, on and off, since 1919. For almost a century it has been chopped, bobbed and raced, and the 101 Scout, made from 1928 to 1931, is undeniably one of the most influential motorcycles ever made.
Today, the Indian Scout is enjoying a resurgence. In 2015, the ‘new’ Indian Motorcycle company launched a contemporary 1,133 cc (69ci) liquid-cooled Scout, with a new DOHC V-twin and an alloy frame. It’s now one of the best-selling motorcycles in the USA, and increasingly popular with customizers. For the 2018 model year, a Scout Bobber variant was introduced.
In 2016 company owner Polaris Industries revealed the Indian Scout FTR750 flat tracker, the first all-new Indian race bike in decades. Powered by a fuel-injected, four-valve-per-cylinder motor, it allowed the Indian ‘Wrecking Crew’ race team to dominate the 2017 American Flat Track season with 14 total wins, and 37 podium appearances.
At the EICMA motorcycle industry show in 2017, Indian pulled the wraps off the Scout FTR1200 Custom, a road-legal street tracker concept closely related to the FTR750 race bike.
