Lightweight thumpers are a dying breed, and more’s the pity. There’s nothing quite like wringing the neck of a punchy mid-sized single with gobs of torque on hand, but very few marques still produce bikes like these. Luckily there are boutique manufacturers like CCM Motorcycles to carry the torch.
We’re big fans of CCM’s philosophy. All of their bikes use the same ‘Spitfire’ platform, which combines a twin-spar chromoly trellis frame with a liquid-cooled 600 cc single-cylinder engine. From there, each CCM model is specced and dressed differently, drawing inspiration from classic roadsters, bobbers, scramblers, and trackers.
The brand new CCM Street Moto adds supermotos to that list. Unveiled today, it’s pitched as a rider’s bike, tailored for enthusiastic street shenanigans.
The vibe is classic supermoto fare, combining the ergonomics of a scrambler with 17” hoops, road-focussed rubber, and a lightweight build. CCM’s tried-and-true powerplant sits at the center of it, pushing out 55 hp, with 50 Nm of torque peaking at 5,500 rpm. That’s more than enough to launch the 141-kilo [310.9 lbs] Street Moto into the stratosphere.
The Street Moto borrows its subframe and carbon fiber bodywork from the CCM Tracker. Both are good-looking machines—closer to the custom bikes we regularly fawn over here than your garden variety factory machine. A svelte tank and flat track-style tail section float over the TIG-welded trellis frame, with a matching mono-shock swingarm propping the bike up at the rear.
Marzocchi forks offer 120 mm of travel up front, while a YSS shock provides 125 mm of travel out back. The wheels are 17” laced items from Haan Wheels, with J.Juan brakes keeping things in check. The bike also wears mid-rise scrambler bars, a low-slung exhaust, and a smattering of CNC-machined components.
You can get the CCM Street Moto in black, white, or blue, with pricing starting at £9,995 [about $13,210]. Or, you can dig deeper, and spring for the fancier CCM Street Moto R [above]. Starting at £11,495 [about $15,190], it comes in either yellow or ‘liquid mercury,’ with exposed carbon fiber accents.
The CCM Street Moto R is more than just a paint job though. CCM has thrown a handful of top-shelf parts at it—and brought its curb weight down to just 139 kg [306.4 lbs].
The Street Moto R trades its laced rims for a pair of satin black Dymag UP7X wheels. There’s also an updated YSS piggyback shock at the rear, and the exhaust is now routed under the seat with a unique muffler. A carbon fiber sump guard finishes things off in style.
CCM has a bunch of bolt-on accessories on hand for both models, or you can order a fully custom Street Moto through their in-house customization department, CCM Skunkwerx. Since CCM’s bikes are put together by hand, the firm offers near-limitless options for fine-tuning each bike—from the paint to the parts spec.
For our money, we’re rather enamored with the Street Moto R. After all, what’s not to love about a light single-cylinder supermoto with retro street tracker looks?
